Description
Current Lot INUIT KAYAK ESKIMO NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ART KAYAK Inuit (probably Yu'pik), Alaska/Canada. Sealskin over wood frame, sewn with sinew, a shiny black substance on the seams. The prow with a notch, the stern with a teardrop shape. Length approximately 144 inches. Provenance: a Northern California estate. In very good, intact condition; the seal skin broken on sides of the nose on prow, a native repair of lashed fiber twine to a hole approximately 3 inches long on lower left side. Small insect bore holes throughout. Fumigated on August 26, 2008.
