A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu (translated as In Search of Lost Time, also Remembrance of Things Past) is considered by many to be the greatest novel of the 20th century, and is certainly the finest piece of sustained modernist literature in the French language. The publication was interrupted by the outbreak of the first world war, and the it was not until five years after Proust's death in 1922 that the publication of the novel was completed.
