A) Giuseppe Giacosa (1847-1906), Signed autograph letter in which the author wrote that , due to his persistent cough ('tosse indemoniata'), he wouldn't have been able to go out and join his friend for a walk ('fare lo scampagnata'): 'Sono furente contro di me e contro Roma. Questo città d'oggi mi avrebbe doto un piacere grande ma nello stato in cui mi trovo lo gaiezza degli altri non farebbe che stimolare la mia bile'. Dated 'Roma, 7 febbraio 1896'. Three pages, 8vo. Interesting signed autograph letter revealing that the composer was in Genoa to assist to the première of his opera, Cristoforo Colombo at the Teatro Carlo Felice, on 6 October 1892. As he was pleased to have met the orchestra director, Luigi Mancinelli wrote: 'Dovendo, o quanto pare, riprodursi il mio Colombo allo Scala io mi sono permesso di domandare al Mancinelli se non sarebbe per awentura possibile che egli assumesse lo Direzione degli spettacoli del massimo Teatro di Milano e mi rispose che, non solo sarebbe pronto, ma non avanzerebbe pretese superiori o quelle che il Municipio adesso può accordare'.
