Although he trained as a decorative artist and painted murals early in his career, he soon developed an interest in the theories and techniques of the Impressionists and dedicated his career to easel painting. Montezin first exhibited his work at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1903. Following his service in the First World War, Montezin traveled to Dreux and Moret-sur-Loing, where he was inspired by the scenery and continued to vacation and paint throughout his life. Like his mentors Alfred Sisley and Claude Monet, Montezin painted directly from nature, using quick, visible brushstrokes and brilliant colors to capture as accurately as possible the mercurial qualities of light.
