Description
Current Lot Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868) Magnificent collection of ten autograph writings addressed to Felice Romani (librettist of lI turco in Italia, 1814) and his wife Emilia Branca, and mainly dating back to the years between 1845 and 1857. The letters mainly relate to work issues, theatre, reccommendations or information about singers and musitions - including, amongst others, Gaetano Magaggiari (3 February 1845), Emilia Boldrini, Domenico Del Lago (28 July 1845 and 24 November 1847) : 'Queste linee ti saranno porte da Mad.Morocint scritturato qual Primo Donna al vostro R.Teatro. Il distinto carattere e il talento musicale di questo artista meritano l'alto tuo protezione. Il Padre che l'occompagna fu un delizioso artista dell'Opera Comica di Parigi, Professore al Conservatorio Imperiale'. Particularly worthy of mention is the letter (with no date) referring to the young composer Casimire Gide (1798-1868): a man came to see Romani, 'Mad. Gide, il cui figlio è compositore di musica, egli vorrebbe porre in musica un Libro di Romani' asking 'di dare allo signora qualche antico libro o scelto e non riuscito perché lo musica sventurata degli autori incaricati vi si oppose'". Some of these letters, for example the one recounting the shipment of a painting (St John) that was sent by Mrs.Giulia Bizzini from Turin to Felice Romani 'dicendo che Rossini venne incaricato dal Pittore Basoli (famous decorator and scenographer scenografo, 7774-7848' or to ship the aforementioned painting). Enclosed to the nine letters written by Rossini is a long four page letter, 8vo, which was sent by Olimpia Rossini to Emilia Branca , bearing cancellations and a red wax seal , and also including some personal and musical information. B)Fine autograph letter signed by the composer of Il Barbiere di 5iviglia, which was composed on 26 November 1845 and directed to Count Giulio Litta, 'celeberrimo compositore dilettante di Musica' to recommending the letter's carrier by virtue of his musical talent: 'un suonatore di violino allievo del nostro Liceo di Bologna'.
