Description
Current Lot (Riccardo Zandonai) - Paolo Troubetzkoy (Intra 1866 - Suna 1938) Dante Alighieri (1890) bust portrait (h. cm 23 × 11) that once belonged to Zandonai: it is a vibrant representation of Dante's features, according to the iconographic tradition, executed by Paolo Troubetzkoy in his early years. Descendant of a noble Russian Family, Troubetzkoy was mentored by Daniele Ranzoni. In 1885 he moved to Milan, where he started working at the project for monument celebrating Dante in Trento, a project that was later assigned to Cesare Zocchi. In1887 the artist exhibited his works in Venice. Then, he travelled abroad, from Paris to America and to Russia, where he received an important commission: realizing the monument in honour of the Russian Emperor Alexander III, which is now kept at the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. Of note, an extensive collection of works and plaster casts by this artist is kept at the Museo del Paesaggio, Verbania, in the Troubetzkoy Gypsotech.
