This piece is entitled Walking Mother and Daughter and dates from 1948. This framed work of art depicts a sketch done by Lewis, which could have served as a study for a more involved piece. Here, we see a charming scene of a mother and daughter taking a stroll.This piece comes handsomely matted and framed for your convenience. There is no glass encasing for this piece, but one could be added.We have included a copy of a letter by the drawing's original owner, Louis Freedenberg, stating that the piece was orginally purchased by him from Martin Lewis's widow Luciel D. Lewis's earliest etching dates from approximately 1915. In 1920 Lewis left for Japan where for he studied oil and watercolor painting. In 1925, he returned to etching and printmaking. Between 1925 and 1935, Lewis produced most of his regarded artwork. It was at this time that Lewis produced a series on Japan and New York.
